Basic License Agreement:
All ART on FILE images are licensed to individual educational institutions for educational use only. Signed license agreements are required before images are shipped. See Institutional Site License below:
Images:
All images are delivered as uncompressed 8bit 50M (or higher) TIF files recently scanned and processed through a new partnership with ARTstor. These high-end scans were made from original 35mm and medium format transparencies. Since 2005 all digital images are 150M 16bit uncompressed TIF files produced from ART on FILE's Canon Ids Mark II cameras. These cameras produce the best digital quality available today in a 35mm format and are processed by ART on FILE to further enhance their quality. Clients are permitted to make derivative file formats and sizes as necessary for use in their site-restricted institution subject to the license agreement.
The images are accompanied by detailed annotations delivered in either Word Files or in Microsoft Excel. ARTstor's highly talented researchers and librarians have extensively upgraded the project descriptions to reflect current data and key word conventions.

ART on FILE
ART on FILE was founded in 1983 by Colleen Chartier and Rob Wilkinson to document contemporary developments in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and public art. They have received National Endowment for the Arts grants to expand this resource and to better serve the educational community. The goal of ART on FILE is to share outstanding examples of public sector design with students and faculty in the hopes that the improved aesthetic quality of the built environment will be inspired by this resource. Their recent priorities to document projects that embody the principals of sustainable design was intended to stimulate creative problem solving that may lead to a more responsible stewardship of our planets dwindling natural resources.
Rob and Colleen's images have appeared in most of the architectural and design publications, textbooks and newspaper journals in the US and overseas. They are currently photographing extensively in the United States and Europe through a recent partnership with ARTstor. The ART on FILE collection has significantly expanded in the past several years because of this new relationship. ART on FILE images are available through ARTstor on a subscription basis or may be acquired on a one time perpetual basis through ART on FILE.
In 2006 ART on FILE and ARTstor (a project created and funded by the Andrew Mellon Foundation) began a partnership that will bear fruit as many new destinations and projects will be added to the ART on FILE library. Trips to Berlin, London, Boston, Los Angeles, Denver and numerous other locations are scheduled for 2007.   In 2008 a major collection on the contemporary
architecture of Spain will be featured along with a number of new locations
in the United States with recent architectural projects of note. These new offering will be available through our web site or through ARTstor. |
